THE PLAN AT A GLANCE

Book a confirmed evening lights session first, then fit a daytime outing around actual holiday hours. Christmas-week schedules can differ sharply from an ordinary weekend.

Build the day around the booking that matters

A holiday outing works better when one confirmed plan anchors the day. Choose the evening experience or museum your group most wants, verify its date, then add a meal and an optional second stop. Avoid building a full itinerary from last year’s event list.

This is a forward-planning guide for the 2026 holiday season, researched on October 12, 2026. It is not a record of a December visit. Details below come from the linked official venue and tourism sources, and should be checked again when you are ready to book.

Milledgeville: Lockerly in Lights

Visit Milledgeville’s 2026 announcement lists Lockerly in Lights from November 20, 2026 through January 2, 2027, on Friday and Saturday evenings. It describes a walk-through event with advance tickets and selected entry times. Use Lockerly’s event page for the current booking options.

The tourism announcement describes a one-mile paved route with uphill sections. Paved does not mean flat or effortless for every visitor. Ask about access arrangements before booking if distance or gradients matter to your party. Decide whether younger children will walk the route or need a stroller.

Our suggested plan is a meal before the reserved session, with enough flexibility that a slow restaurant service does not make you late. Keep ticket confirmations together and agree which car everyone will travel in. If you want a daytime arboretum visit as well, verify those hours separately; an evening event ticket is not a substitute for checking the daytime schedule.

Perry: two confirmed downtown evenings

The city calendar lists Perry’s Pajama Holiday Bash on December 11, 2026, from 6–9pm, with free entry, music and late shopping. The Buzzard Drop follows on December 31 from 8pm through midnight. Food and drink purchases are separate.

Follow the dated 2026 announcements linked in each listing. The city’s separate Buzzard Drop marketing page still includes prior-year text, so confirm the final children’s countdown and entertainment timetable before choosing an arrival time.

Warner Robins: account for museum holiday hours

The Museum of Aviation’s official hours list closure on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. They also list a 1pm closing on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Plan a museum outing on a suitable day rather than assuming that a familiar attraction follows its normal weekly schedule throughout the holidays.

If relatives are only in town for a few days, choose the museum date before assigning the rest of the activities. Keep the visit modest enough to leave time for meals and family commitments. Our Museum of Aviation planning guide explains how to make a manageable first visit.

Macon: check the park calendar before leaving

Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park lists closures on Thanksgiving, December 25 and January 1. A park outing can still fit a holiday visit, but the day itself matters. Recheck park alerts and the operating schedule before making it the main family plan.

For a group with different energy levels, agree on a short first stop and decide together whether to extend it. A winter outing does not have to fill the entire day. Leave room to change plans if the weather or the group’s needs differ from what you expected.

Keep a second plan in the same area

Use the city directory to keep your options geographically sensible. If your evening booking is in Milledgeville, avoid adding a distant attraction simply because it appears in the same regional roundup. Check the map and the actual travel plan before making reservations.

Split the budget into entry, food and optional purchases. A lights ticket, a daytime museum admission and a restaurant meal are separate costs. If you are organizing for a group, tell everyone which items are booked and which are only suggestions so nobody mistakes an idea for a confirmed reservation.

Before the outing, check the organizer’s cancellation and weather notices, your selected entry date, and any access arrangements. Save a copy of the plan that everyone can read. The best holiday itinerary is one the whole group can follow comfortably, with enough room to enjoy being together.
