A Macon music history day: Capricorn and the Big House
Plan a Macon music day around Capricorn and the Big House, with museum versus studio tickets, opening days and a flexible suggested itinerary.

THE PLAN AT A GLANCE
Choose Capricorn for the story of a recording studio and label, and the Big House for the Allman Brothers Band. Check opening days before planning both into the same trip.
Start with the kind of music story you want
A music trip to Macon is easier to plan when you choose a focus. Are you curious about how records were made, the artists who made them, or the places that shaped a band’s daily life? That choice helps you spend more time with a meaningful stop and less time moving between addresses.
Mercer Music at Capricorn combines a historic recording studio with a museum devoted to the label and its musical legacy. The Big House Museum offers another anchor for fans of the Allman Brothers Band. Treat the two as complementary stops, with a transfer between them, rather than a single admission or one continuous attraction.
Know what your Capricorn ticket includes
The Capricorn museum page lists museum admission at $7 and studio tours at $10. Museum access and a studio tour are different products. Check the ticket description and the selected date before purchasing; seeing a studio photograph in a guide does not mean every museum ticket includes entry to the recording room.
The published schedule closes the museum on Monday and Tuesday. Studio tours are listed separately at 10am Friday–Sunday. Check current availability because the venue is also a working music facility. If a studio tour is the reason for your trip, secure that part of the plan before arranging the rest of your day.
For a self-guided visit, choose a few recordings or artists you want to investigate. Give yourself time to listen and read rather than treating the interactive exhibits as a queue to move through. The Try478 Capricorn listing links back to the venue for the latest details.
Leave enough time to enter the Big House
The Big House homepage currently lists Thursday–Saturday 11am–6pm and Sunday 11am–4pm, with gates shutting 45 minutes before closing. Regular admission is listed at $20, with other categories shown by the museum. Recheck the terms for each person in your group.
The earlier gate closure matters more than simply knowing the final closing time. Build a buffer around lunch, parking and the transfer from your first stop. If the timing gets tight, choose one museum and enjoy it properly instead of arriving at the second too late to enter.
A suggested two-stop music day
On a day when both venues are open, choose the experience with a fixed start time first. If you have booked a Capricorn studio tour, make that the anchor. If you only want self-guided museum visits, choose an order that fits the current opening hours and your starting location.
Leave a meal break between the stops. Compare what you learned about recording with what you learned about the musicians themselves. A useful conversation prompt is to ask each person which object or recording changed their understanding of the music. That gives the day a shared thread even when everyone arrived knowing different songs.
Keep any evening show as a separate booking. A museum opening schedule is not a concert calendar, and a daytime ticket should not be assumed to include a performance. Confirm the artist, venue, age rules and ticket availability on the organizer’s own page.
Make it a realistic Macon outing
Use the Macon city guide to decide whether you want a music-focused day or a broader history outing. If you add another attraction, remove something else from the plan instead of stacking more stops onto the same afternoon.
Before leaving, save the venue addresses, booked entry time and ticket confirmation where you can find them easily. Ask each venue about access needs in advance. Our itinerary is a planning suggestion based on published information, not an account of a hosted visit or a partnership with either museum.

Common questions
Does a Capricorn museum ticket include the studio tour?
The official page lists museum admission and studio tours separately. Read the selected ticket’s inclusions before booking.
Can I visit both museums on Monday?
Their currently published schedules do not support that plan. Capricorn lists Monday–Tuesday closures and the Big House lists Thursday–Sunday visiting hours.
